Saturday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers and NHL Playoffs Open Forum

The Edmonton Oilers edged the host Anaheim Ducks 2-1 to take a commanding two to zero lead in the second round series between the two Pacific Division clubs. Cam Talbot made 39 saves and Andrej Sekara and Patrick Maroon scored the goals. Jacob Silfverberg bagged the only goal for the Ducks.

The St. Louis Blues evened their series with the Nashville Predators at one game apiece with a 3-2 victory at Scottrade Center. Vladimir Tarasenko notched the game-wining goal, his second of night, with 3:51 remaining in regulation as the Blues overcame a 2-1 deficit. Jori Lehtera scored the other St. Louis goal, while James Neal and Ryan Ellis lit the lamp for the Predators, who suffered their first postseason loss.

Today’s Stanley Cup playoff games have the Ottawa Senators hosting the New York Rangers (NBC – 3 pm) and the Pittsburgh Penguins visiting the Washington Capitals (NBC – 8 pm).

The three Florida Panthers prospects still playing will all be in action on this Saturday. Sam Brittain and Thomas Schemitsch will take part as the Manchester Monarchs attempt to even their second round series against the Brampton Beast in the ECHL playoffs. Samuel Montembeault will be in net as the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada attempt to eliminate the Charlottetown Islanders in the semifinals of the QMJHL playoffs.

And finally, the Chicago Blackhawks acquired a third-round pick in 2017 from the Carolina Hurricanes for goaltender Scott Darling. Look for the trade market to really start heating up as the Original 30 start to shuffle their rosters in preparation for June’s Expansion Draft to stock the Vegas Golden Knights.

Let’s keep the chatter going and enjoy your weekend, LBCers!
