Saturday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers and NHL Playoffs Open Forum

A light night on the Stanley Cup playoff schedule saw two teams score key overtime victories.

The Boston Bruins stayed alive, thanks to Sean Kuraly’s second goal of the game in double overtime, with a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators. The series heads back to back to Boston with the Senators now leading three games to two.

In our nation’s capital, the Washington Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs by a 2-1 count, thanks to Justin Williams’ goal 1:04 into the extra session. The Capitals took a three to two lead in the series, which has seen four of the game go to overtime.

Today’s tilts see the St. Louis Blues visit the Minnesota (NBC – 3 pm), the Montreal Canadiens at the New York Rangers (NBC – 8 pm), and in the late game, the Edmonton Oilers will visit the San Jose Sharks (NBCSN – 10:30 pm). The Blues, Rangers and Oilers can advance with victories.

In Florida Panthers news, none of the four Cats prospects still playing were in action last night. Sam Brittain, Thomas Schemitsch and the Manchester Monarchs will look to knock out the Adirondack Thunder tonight in their first round ECHL series. Evan Cowley has been backing up for the Reading Royals, who will take on the Brampton Beast tonight in a series that’s tied at two. In OHL action, Jonathan Ang and the Peterborough Petes will look to bounce back from a Game 1 loss to Mississauga, and in the “Q”, Samuel Montembeault will backstop Blainville-Boisbriand for Game 2 of their series against Charlottetown. Montembeault and the Armada dropped Game 1 to the host Islanders.
