Thursday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Florida Panthers finally got down to a league-mandated 23-man roster yesterday by placing Bogdan Kiselevich on injured reserve, where he joined Jamie McGinn, and Josh Brown on season-opening injured reserve.

Kiselevich is pushing to play in Saturday night’s season-opener, so the Cats will have to make another move for that to happen. Maxim Mamin, Denis Malgin and Jacob MacDonald are the players that would be waivers exempt according to capfriendly.

The NHL opened regular season play last night and the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals kindly did the Panthers a favor by blasting the Boston Bruins 7-0 on home ice. What hangover?

Auston Matthews scored his second goal of the game to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens in an unwelcome three-point game between two Atlantic Division teams.

Out west, the Vancouver Canucks beat the visiting Calgary Flames 5-2 and the Anaheim Ducks went on the road and pinned a 5-2 loss on the San Jose Sharks, spoiling Erik Karlsson’s debut with his new team.
