NHL Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Thursday Open Forum

The Toronto Maple Leafs went crazy ape bonkers and signed six forwards and a defenseman to add to the club’s organizational depth on Wednesday.

The forwards inking new deals were Pontus Aberg, Kenny Agostino, Tyler Gaudet, Kalle Kossila, Nick Shore and former Florida Panthers prospect Garrett Wilson. The defenseman added was unrestricted free agent Kevin Gravel.

Here are the details of each signing:

Aberg: one-year, $700,000

Agostino: two-year, $737,500

Gaudet: one-year, two-way deal, $700,000

Kossila: two-year, two-way deal, $700,000

Shore: one-year, $750,000

Wilson: one-year, $725,000

Gravel: one-year, $700,000

Speaking of former Panthers, although this one never suited up for the Cats, Marc Savard was hired by the St. Louis Blues as an assistant coach. (St. Louis Game Time)

The Calgary Flames and forward Sam Bennett avoided arbitration, agreeing to a two-year deal with an average annual value of $2.55 million. The feisty Bennett produced 13 goals and 14 assists in 71 games last season and led the team with 93 penalty minutes. (Matchsticks and Gasoline)

Washington Capitals defenseman Christian Djoos was awarded a new one-year contract worth $1.25 million. Djoos was the second player so far this summer to have an arbitration hearing,  (Russian Machine Never Breaks)
