The Florida Panthers have traded forward Denis Malgin to the Toronto Maples with left winger Mason Marchment coming back the other way.
Marchment was first signed to an AHL deal in 2016 by the Toronto Marlies before he was inked to an entry-level contract by the parent club on March 18, 2018.
In 24 games for the Marlies this season, Marchment has produced 13 goals and 5 assists to along with 18 PIM.
He has made four appearances this season with the Maple Leafs and collected his first NHL point, an assist, on January 6th in a 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
A late-bloomer who didn’t play major junior until he was 19, Marchment is a winger with good size who has shown a nose for the net in the AHL and is ready for an extended look in the bigs.
It seems a little more likely Marchment will head to Springfield, but perhaps he will get an audition with the Cats.
Malgin heads north to Toronto where he will be reunited with former ZSC Lions teammate Austin Matthews.
The diminutive Malgin produced 60 points (28G/32A) in 184 games with Florida after being taken in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, but had a difficult time carving out a permanent role for himself.
An interesting trade with the two teams a mere two points apart in the standings.
