Gameday 64: Florida Panthers vs Philadelphia Flyers

Graphic design: Francisco Oporta

The Florida Panthers (43-16-4) will be looking for a bit of revenge when they host the Philadelphia Flyers (32-23-8 72P) tonight at Amerant Bank Arena. Florida is currently on an amazing 16-2 run, with the only losses over that span coming to Philadelphia and the Carolina Hurricanes, both by one-goal margins. Yesterday, the league-leaders added veteran forward Vladimir Tarasenko to the roster by sending a conditional fourth round pick (2024) and a third round pick (2025) to the Ottawa Senators, who are kindly retaining 50% of his salary. It will be interesting to see where Tarasenko slots into the forward group when he makes his Panthers debut.

The Flyers are coming off a 2-1 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues on home ice and have struggled of late, going 3-4-2 over the last nine games. That’s been good enough to hold on to third place in the Metropolitan Division, but look out below… the New York Islanders are starting to make up ground and have two games in hand. Philadelphia weakened their defense corps in the short term by trading defenseman Sean Walker and fifth-round pick in 2026 to the Colorado Avalanche yesterday. The Flyers got back a first round pick in the 2025 draft and center Ryan Johansen, who they promptly placed on waivers.
