Gameday 6: Florida Panthers vs San Jose Sharks

Graphic design: Francisco Oporta

The Florida Panthers will host the San Jose Sharks tonight at Amerant Bank Arena in the third game of a four-game homestand. Florida dropped a disappointing 5-3 decision to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday to end its modest two-game winning streak. Sam Reinhart, who was named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week, scored twice in the loss and leads the Cats in goals (6) and points (8). After watching Sergei Bobrovsky go 2-3 to start the season, summer free agent signing Anthony Stolarz will make his first start with the Panthers. With rookie Justin Sourdif heading to Charlotte, forward Will Lockwood could also make his Florida debut tonight.

San Jose will be looking to take advantage of Florida’s special teams woes to capture its first win of season. The rebuilding Sharks currently sit 32nd in the league, earning just one point in five games. They are in the midst of five-game road trip that began with a 5-1 loss to the Predators in Nashville. One bright spot has been the play of Tomas Hertl, who leads the team in scoring with five points. That’s pretty impressive considering the Sharks have only scored seven goals thus far.
