In a move surprising, well, absolutely no one, the Florida Panthers announced they have signed forward Jaromir Jagr to a one-year contract extension. Click here for the official release on the team’s website.
Jagr joined the Panthers in a February trade deadline deal with the New Jersey Devils that cost the club a second-round pick in 2015 and a conditional third-rounder (Florida’s own or the pick acquired from Minnesota) in 2016. The 43-year-old, five-time Art Ross Trophy winner was well worth it, scoring 6 goals and 12 assists in 20 games with his new team.
The sides wasted no time in getting a new deal done. A move that will keep the team’s dominating first line of Jagr, team-leading scorer Jonathan Huberdeau, and rapidly-improving center Aleksander Barkov together for next year, simplifying Dale Tallon’s offseason to-do list. It will be blast to see what the trio of puck-possession monsters can accomplish over the course of a full regular season.
