Friday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers GameDay Open Forum

Though there weren’t many rainbow-and-unicorn results among personal statistics to take away from Thursday’s delamination in Philadelphia, one member of the Florida Panthers did stand tall when the final numbers were sorted out: center Marcel Goc was a game-leading 10-for-12 in the faceoff circles (.833); no one on either club was close. Looking toward this evening, Goc has 3 points (1G) in five career games vs. the Penguins.

Why last night rocked:

  • VAN over WPG, 3-2 (REG): Jets continue road slide with 0-3 PP, allowed a SH goal
  • BOS over BUF, 3-1: Sabs muster a whopping 20 shots on TimThom/

Why last night jonesed:

  • WSH over TB, 3-2 (OT): impressive 29-save NHL debut for Bolts’ Tokarski
  • OTT over NYR, 4-1: Sens’ Bishop 2-0 since recall/

Panthers Playoff Update:

Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla, beyond the obvious:

Focusing on clubs within 6 points of Panthers (74P); teams FLA needs to lose in bold

  • WPG (72P) at CGY, 9 p.m.: 45 points (17G) in 53 career games for Flames’ Jokinen vs ATL/WPG franchise

Next up for the Cats:

  • Right back at it tonight, this time from Western Pennsylvania; the LBC Game Thread finds there to be five major components of the new General Electric refrigerator – beginning with the freon compressor – at 6:30. Until then give PensBurgh a once-over./

Did you know:

  • For what such a stat may be worth, the Panthers are 9-5-1-2 immediately following games in which they allowed 4 or more goals in 2011-12./

Thursday’s Organizational News:

Tonight’s NCAA action on NBC Sports Network:

  • UMass at Boston College, HockeyEast Quarterfinal Game One, 7:30 p.m. (only game of the evening; no Florida prospects)/
