If Cats fans ever debated giving Florida general manager Randy Sexton their collective faith, now would be a logical time to get behind him.
Literally, the future of the franchise rests in his hands as he addresses his club’s deficits in an attempt to move beyond the mess that has become the 2009-10 season.
Oh yeah…there was a game Thursday. The Panthers failed to score – but hit a lot of goalposts – while Roberto Luongo made 35 saves, allowing markers by Alexandre Burrows, Ryan Kesler, and Jannik Hansen to stand up. Easily.
Tomas Vokoun stopped 32 shots while – once more – standing on his head. No question he’ll be spending the remainder of his season evening jamming to this. Rest assured I will.
Back to Sexton: he’s got the weight of the franchise on his shoulders, and the next few hours may potentially lay the groundwork for the next couple of seasons…or beyond.
Forget the March 3rd trade deadline: Friday’s 3pm trade freeze is an enormous factor for each club; sellers are looking to shed salary during the Olympic break. Are the Panthers indeed sellers?
Semi-fan favorite Dominic Moore has already been dealt in what many (myself included) believe was a steal for the Cats. His dismissal was not indicative of his efforts; simply a move meant to pad the future and shed a bit of salary from a player likely to sign elsewhere come July 1st. Others view it as a mistake; you be the judge.
