Just in: The Florida Panthers have recalled defenseman Alex Petrovic. Not at all a surprise considering how the Cats have been playing defense as of late. Petrovic has appeared in 13 NHL games with Florida in his career, collecting one assist.
The San Antonio Rampage dropped a pair of games in Cleveland this week to the Lake Erie Monsters. Lake Erie took the first game by a 6-2 count and then pulled out a 3-2 overtime win in the return match.
Monsters 6, Rampage 2
Lake Erie broke open a 2-2 tie with four third period goals to take Thursday’s opener. Greg Zanon got the Rampage off to a fast start, scoring just 3:05 into the first period, with the assists going to Connor Brickley and Mark Mancari. The goal was Zanon’s first of the season. The Monsters struck back 21 seconds later with a Joey Hishon goal. Corban Knight restored San Antonio’s lead, notching his tenth from Alex Petrovic and Zanon. Lake Erie replied quickly again, this time Andrew Agozzino did the honors, with Dennis Everberg and Hishon collecting the helpers. After a scoreless second period, the Monsters mashed San Antonio in the third. Mike Sgarbossa, Kenny Ryan and Maxim Noreau beat Michael Houser in the first 5:44 of the frame. Everberg completed the scoring with 3:30 remaining. Houser finished the game with 24 saves while veteran Reto Berra stopped 29 shots to post the win.
Monsters 3, Rampage 2 (OT)
Andrew Agozzino notched the game-winner 1:55 into overtime to give Lake Erie a second straight win over the Rampage. Dennis Everberg opened the scoring at the 12:00 mark of the first period. Goaltenders Reto Berra and Dan Ellis kept things clean until the third period, when Stefan Elliott tallied at the 37-second mark. Vincent Trocheck bagged his third AHL tally of the season to quickly pull the Silver and Black within one. Steven Kampfer picked up the lone assist on Trocheck’s power-play marker. Garrett Wilson got San Antonio a point when he lit the lamp with 3:22 left in regulation. Alex Petrovic and Trocheck picked up the assists on Wilson’s fifteenth. Berra was superb again, turning aside 37 shots while Ellis had a solid outing, finishing with 22 saves.
The Rampage (23-14-4-0) finish off the three-game road trip on Friday versus the Texas Stars before returning home for Saturday night’s clash with the Charlotte Checkers.
