Florida Panthers prospect Anton Lundell will play for gold this afternoon at the World Championship in Riga, Latvia. Lundell set up Iiro Pakarinen’s game-opening goal 13:50 into the first period, and Finland went on to edge Germany 2-1 to advance to the final, where they will Canada, who defeated the United States by a 4-2 count.
After reeling in a pass that hit him in the skate in the neutral zone, Lundell went cross-ice to Parakinen, whose shot dribbled through German keeper Mathias Niederberger.

Lundell finished the game with two shots on goal, a +1 rating and won seven of fourteen faceoffs. The 19-year-old has produced four goals and seven points in nine tournament games while centering Finland’s second line.

Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos scored two goals apiece, and the Tampa Bay Lightning powered their way to a 6-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game Four of their second round series. After a season of having Andrei Vasilevskiy bail them out in win after win, it was the power play (3-for-6) and the offense picking up their goaltender to put them on the brink of moving to the final four.

The New York Islanders overcame an outstanding night from Tuukka Rask (30 saves) and delivered their best performance of the second round, evening their series with the Boston Bruins at two games apiece. The empty-net-inflated 4-1 final score does not reflect how long Game 4 was on a knife’s edge. Boston’s only lead lasted five minutes, and the Isles didn’t get a lead of their own until seven minutes remained in regulation, when Mathew Barzal scored the go-ahead goal.
