Wade Megan has been on an absolute tear for the Florida Panthers ECHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones, this season. Megan has bagged nine goals in his last six games and leads the 7-2 Cyclones in scoring with 9 goals and 6 assists in nine games. A very impressive start for a kid in his first full professional season.
The native of Canton, New York started the season off on a seven-game point streak before getting blanked by the Fort Wayne Komets in Cincinnati’s 8th game, which was the club’s first loss. He bounced right back with a goal in the Cyclones’ most recent game, a 4-2 defeat to the Orlando Solar Bears, to keep up his torrid pace.
Megan picked up assists in the first three games of the campaign before going on his goal-scoring binge. He scored twice and added an assist on the road against Toledo on October 30th, duplicated those numbers in Evansville in the next game, and did it a third-straight time in Kalamazoo versus the Wings during a 7-0 win. After a four-game break, Cincinnati returned to Kalamazoo and Megan fired in two more goals, but didn’t add a helper this time, as Cincy skated to a 6-5 victory.
Megan played high school hockey at Connecticut’s South Kent School before graduating to the NCAA for four seasons with the Boston University Terriers. He posted a career-high 20 goals for BU as a junior and back-to-back seasons of 29 points during his junior and senior campaigns. He was the team captain during his senior season.
After finishing up with the Terriers, the pivot signed on, via ATO, with the San Antonio Rampage, where he suited up for 13 games. He scored a single goal, against the Grand Rapids Griffins on March 28th, and finished with a -5 rating.
Much like its parent club, the Rampage struggles to score goals, and with Megan tearing it up in the ECHL, it shouldn’t be too long until the youngster finds himself back in the River City, as he climbs the prospect ladder towards, hopefully, one day playing in the NHL for the Panthers.
