Wednesday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Offseason doings around the NHL remained relatively quiet yesterday with a smattering minor moves, three involving the Florida Panthers Atlantic Division rivals, who they may or may not see during the upcoming season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and 26-year-old forward Ilya Mikheyev have agreed to a two-year, $3.29 million contract extension. The two sides were scheduled for an arbitration hearing today. Mikheyev produced eight goals and 23 points in 39 regular season games in 2019-20, his first season in the NHL. For more visit Pension Plan Puppets.

Karson Kuhlman remained with the Boston Bruins by signing a new two-year, two-way deal worth $1.525 million at the NHL level. The 25-year-old forward appeared in 25 games with Bruins in 2019-20 and scored one goal and five assists. Kuhlman also made played in five of Boston’s postseason games. The Montreal Canadiens signed defenseman Kaiden Guhle to an entry-level contract. Guhle was selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2020 Entry Draft.  He put up 40 points in 64 games with the Prince Albert Raiders (WHL) last season. For more visit Eyes On The Prize.

The New Jersey Devils signed Nick Merkley to a new one-year, two-way contract. New Jersey acquired Merkley from the Arizona Coyotes as pat of the Taylor Hall deal on December 16, 2019. Merkley spent most of last season in the AHL, but did appear in four games for the Devils, producing a goal and an assist. For more visit All About The Jersey.
