AHL: Despite Sim Hat Trick Rampage Fall 5-3

Three different players scored goals in Saturday’s contest in Oklahoma City. Jon Sim (above in Islanders gear) opened the scoring for San Antonio three minutes into the first. However Oklahoma City answered back with three straight goals, the first from AHL scoring leader Justin Schultz, with Jordan Eberle scoring the other two. Sim answered with his second goal on the powerplay in the final minute of the second, but the Barons made it a three goal game again in the opening seconds of the third with another Eberle goal, also on the powerplay. Sim became the second player to score a hat trick in the game midway thought the period, but Eberle scored his fourth goal of the game on an empty netter. Dov Grumet-Morris was in net, allowing four goals on 24 shots (.833 Sv%).

Rampage Hero

  • Sim: The second star of the game became the 13th Rampage player to score a hat trick. Sim has scored four goals in his last two games, and has been the only San Antonio player to score a goal this weekend.
  • Alexander Petrovic: More of an honorable mention than a hero, Petrovic brought his A game and lead the team in shots with six, and managed a plus-one despite being on the ice for two goals against.

Rampage Zero

  • Hard to point at one player and label him a zero. The Rampage did play a lot better than they did on Friday, and kept the score close for most of the game. The physical play improved from Friday, drawling penalties in an effort to hit the Barons where in hurts (27th home PK in the AHL), and came up with a big powerplay goal. While they out shot the Barons by only one shot (26-25), the Barons were kept to single digit shots in the first two periods. Just a case of bad luck./

Weekend series ends early this evening with a return home to face the division leading Charlotte Checkers. Puck drops at 5:30 PM.
