Scouting Report

The Florida Panthers saw its season-high, six-game winning streak come to end Tuesday night in Raleigh. Special teams and faceoffs were the difference as the Hurricanes upped their record at PNC Arena to 13-2-3 and the Cats lost for the first time in regulation this season when leading after two periods (18-1-1). Former Panther Vincent Trocheck scored for the fifth straight game against his old club and has collected at least a point in the last 11 games he’s played (six goals, nine assists); he missed eight in between with an upper-body injury. Aleksander Barkov scored both of the Cats goals in the 5-2 loss, while Carter Verheaghe picked up two helpers and has scored 11 points (five goals, six assists) in his past seven games. Florida will need more secondary scoring to best the stingy Hurricanes. The one time they beat Carolina, in the first of the eight-game set, it took four goals to do so.
