Panthers double up Lightning 6-3 in impressive preseason win

After pouring in six goals against Dallas on Saturday, the Florida Panthers kept the offense coming in a 6-3 preseason defeat of the Tampa Bay Lightning last night at the BB&T Center.

The Panthers scored all six goals against Andrei Vasilevskiy on just 22 shots.

Sergei Bobrovsky saw his first action and was beaten by Alexander Volkov 15:53 into the first period.

Frank Vatrano evened things up with a big shorthanded goal with 56 seconds left in the frame. Henrik Borgstrom and Aaron Ekblad drew the assists.

Aleksander Barkov notched his first of the preseason, from linemates Jonathan Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov, to give the Cats the lead 2:12 into the second.

Bobrovsky would surrender a goal to Anthony Cirelli 1:42 later, allowing the Bolts to forge a tie at twos.

No worries, the Panthers top line would click two more times in a 19-second span to give the home team a two-goal advantage.

Barkov tallied again, this time unassisted, 1:01 after Cirelli’s marker and then combined with Dadonov to set up Huberdeau for his second preseason goal.

Dominic Toninato, battling for one of the final roster spots at forward, lit the lamp at the 14:11 mark to push the Cats lead to three, with Dryden Hunt and Ekblad collecting the helpers.

The Lightning’s Mikhail Sergachev would put a power-play goal past Chris Driedger with 3:25 to go in the period to cut the Panthers lead back down to two.

Denis Malgin completed the scoring with the only goal of the the third period. Assists went to Vincent Trocheck and Mike Hoffman.

Bobrovsky played 31:08 and stopped 12 of 14 shots before giving way to Driedger, who finished with 7 saves on 8 shots.

The two Florida-based teams will meet again on Thursday night in Sunrise.
