Yesterday’s game: Hurricanes 3, Panthers 1

The Panthers prospects were outplayed by the Carolina Hurricanes, who converted twice on the power play to take a 3-1 decision in the first game of the tournament. Ryan Suzuki beat Spencer Knight with a one-timer and Justin Robidas lit the lamp with a wrister from the left circle during the second period. Stelio Mattheos deflected a shot home early in the third to put the Hurricanes up by three. The only Florida goal came with Knight, who unofficially faced 42 shots, pulled for an extra attacker late in the game. Defenseman Robert Calisti, an invite to development camp, found the back of the net from the high slot with Logan Hutsko getting the assist from below the goal line. Carolina prospect goaltender Eetu Makiniemi had a very strong game. Anton Lundell looked good for the Panthers. His best chance came when he hit the cross bar on a shorthanded opportunity in the opening frame.

Calisiti’s late goal

A five-round shootout was held after the game, which the Panthers took 2-0. Justin Sourdif and Serron Noel scored for the Cats.
