LBC’s 2013 Florida Panthers / NHL Entry Draft Open Thread; Cats Select Aleksander Barkov At #2

Update: It’s Barkov. (SB Nation player profile here)

So here we go for our fifth run at live-blogging the NHL Entry Draft, and the intrigue seems to get richer with each passing season, the last two of which brought us dual thirds resulting in Erik Gudbranson and Jonathan Huberdeau, so an air of excitement in an even better draft crop is undeniable. An unnecessary recap: heading into a 3 p.m. kick off, the Florida Panthers currently hold the second-overall selection, having previously lost the lottery to Colorado; Tampa Bay will – so far – choose third. A wicked assemblage of talent exists at the predicted “top” of the class in defenseman Seth Jones and forwards Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin, and Aleksander Barkov, and we’ll finally learn in short order which club’s holes each of these guys will plug.

With the fluff now having been covered, on to the goods…
