The Florida Panthers dominated the Ottawa Senators, but as per usual, had a devil of a time with goaltender Craig Anderson before emerging with a 2-1 shootout win at the BB&T Center. The victory was Florida’s fifth in a row and moved them past the Detroit Red Wings into third place in the Atlantic Division.
Corban Knight scored his first goal as Panther midway through the second period, with the assists going to Quinton Howden and Jaromir Jagr.
The Senators, who were badly outplayed and outshot during the first forty minutes, tied the game early in the third on Mark Stone‘s redirection of Erik Karlsson‘s shot. The power-play tally came with Brandon Pirri in the sin bin serving a too many men on the ice minor.
The Cats worked the same shootout mojo they did on Sunday against Vancouver, with Pirri scoring in the opening round, Jonathan Huberdeau coming up empty in the second, and Aleksander Barkov delivering the dagger in the third.
Roberto Luongo, who finished the game with 15 saves, stopped Mika Zibanejad and Kyle Turris in the skills competition.
Anderson was a wall in the Ottawa net to get his club a point. The former Florida keeper stopped 39 of the 40 shots he faced in regulation and overtime.
