The 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs get underway today with two games on the slate with TBS handling the broadcast of both.

Up first is Game 1 between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Islanders at 5 p.m at PNC Arena in Raleigh. The Hurricanes finished in second place in the Metropolitan Division with 111 points, while the Islanders finished in third place with 94.

The nightcap features the Boston Bruins hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden at 8 p.m. This is also a matchup between second and third place teams with the Bruins finishing one point behind the Atlantic Division champions, the Florida Panthers with 109 points, while the Maple Leafs concluded the season with 102 points, four more than the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Charlotte Checkers will play its penultimate game of the 2023-24 AHL season tonight when they take on the Hershey Bears at Giant Center at 7 p.m. The fourth place Checkers (38-25-7) will finish the campaign tomorrow on the road against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. They still have a chance to move up to third place in the Atlantic Division.

At yesterday’s press conference in Salt Lake City, Gary Bettman and new owners of the league’s Utah franchise, Ashley and Ryan Smith, spoke on the virtues of the area and some their plans going forward. The team has already received over 20,000 deposit for season tickets.
