Saturday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers and NHL Playoffs Open Forum

Matt Murray returned to the net and led the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators, tying the Eastern Conference final at two games apiece. Murray made 24 saves and Olli Maatta, Sidney Crosby and Brian Dumoulin scored for the Penguins. Clarke MacArthur and Tom Pyatt lit the lamp for the Senators.

The Anaheim Ducks will host the Nashville Predators tonight (NBC – 7:15) at Honda Center in Game 5 of the Western Conference final.

In Florida Panthers news, Sam Brittain made 21 stops in Manchester’s 2-1 loss to South Carolina last night. The Stingrays tied the series at two games apiece with the road win. Defenseman Thomas Schemitsch had three shots on goal, took a rouging minor, and finished with an even rating. Unfortunately, Schemitsh’s penalty led to the eventual game-winning goal by Rob Flick early in the third period. The Monarchs will host Game 5 tonight at SNHU Arena.

Jason Demers and Mike Matheson will be action today as Canada takes on Russia in the semifinals at the 2017 IIHF World Championship in Cologne, Germany. The game will be broadcast on NHL Network, with coverage starting at 9 am. The winner of the game will face the winner of Sweden – Finland for the gold medal tomorrow.
