Florida Panthers select goaltender Spencer Knight with 13th pick

The Florida Panthers have selected goaltender Spencer Knight with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Knight, a 6’3” highly-regarded keeper who catches left out of the USNTDP, has every attribute that you could want in a netminding prospect. He is extremely athletic, possesses elite-level anticipation and has a very well-developed game for a teenager. He is also very mature and displays a high degree of the mental toughness by shaking off a bad goals or bad games, an innate ability needed to succeed at the NHL level.

In 16 USHL games, he posted a 2.21 GAA, a .903 save percentage and one shutout while going 15-1.

While he is touted as a potential franchise goalie, Knight is not expected to break into the bigs right away and will head to Boston College this fall, where he will continue to hone his game.

With Roberto Luongo’s future up in the air, the Panthers might have just found the club’s next Hall-of-Fame type goalie, albeit one that might have to wait a bit if the Cats do sign Sergei Bobrovksy in free agency.
