Thursday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

In case you missed it, the Florida Panthers unveiled the club’s 30th Anniversary logo yesterday.

The font used on the 30th logo is reminiscent of the team’s current lettering while giving a nod to the franchise’s original typeface. The shape of the anniversary mark forms an elongated shield to reflect the team’s current primary logo which draws inspiration from the Army’s 101st Airborne Division.

If fans look closely at the anniversary logo, they will notice three ‘red bands’ on the broken stick. These symbolize three decades of Panthers hockey as well as the franchise’s three retired numbers: 1: Roberto Luongo, 37: Wayne Huizenga, and 93: Bill Torrey.

The Cats will celebrate thirty years of Panthers hockey with a theme night honoring each decade. On January 11 as the Panthers host the Los Angeles Kings, fans can hark back to the birth of the franchise in the 1990s. On March 7 vs. the Philadelphia Flyers, the 2000s will be in the spotlight and on March 28 vs. the New York Islanders, game presentation and in-game themes will highlight the 2010s into the current era.
