Thursday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Florida Panthers remain idle for another day before facing the Vegas Golden Knights tomorrow night at the BB&T Center.

Florida, tied with Montreal with 42 points, remained in fifth place in the Atlantic Division thanks to Boston’s 4-1 win over the Canadiens, who have now played two more games than the Panthers.

The New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins, currently holding down the wild cards spots in the Eastern Conference, are both in action tonight. So, let’s pull for Buffalo over the Rangers and Los Angeles over the Penguins in regulation. A Bruins win over the New York Islanders would also be helpful.

In AHL news, the Springfield Thunderbirds (19-21-1-1) edged the Hershey Bears 5-4 in shootout to post their fifth win in a row. Alexandre Grenier, Dryden Hunt, Anthony Greco and Maxim Mamim scored in regulation. Ludwig Bystrom, Curtis Valk and Blaine Byron scored in the shootout with Byron’s strike winning it in the bottom of the third round. Samuel Montembeault made 33 saves to post the win in net.
