Gameday 79: Florida Panthers vs Ottawa Senators

Graphic design: Francisco Oporta

After finishing a four-game road trip with a 1-2-1 record, the Florida Panthers (48-24-6) return to Amerant Bank Arena for the remainder of the regular season, starting with tonight’s tilt against the Ottawa Senators (34-39-4). The Panthers played well, but came up short in their last outing, a 3-2 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday that essentially ended any chance they had of winning the Atlantic Division. Florida’s mission over the final ten days of the 2023-24 campaign is to continue to get their game back on track and hold on to second place so they have home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

After getting blasted 6-0 on home ice by the Panthers last Thursday, the Senators dropped a one-goal decision to the New Jersey Devils before handing the Washington Capitals a damaging 3-2 defeat at Capital One Arena on Sunday in the second game of a back-to-back. Ottawa, who will miss the playoffs for the seventh straight season, will try to avoid a season-series swept tonight. The Senators did earn a point against the Cats in their previous trip to Sunrise that resulted in a 3-2 overtime loss back on February 20.
