Wednesday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman was awarded a one-year, $3.475 million contract in arbitration. Swayman filed for $4.8 million, while the team countered at $2 million, so essentially the third-party arbiter spilt the difference. During the 2022-23 season, Swayman posted a 24-6-4 record, .920 save percentage, 2.27 GAA and four shutouts in 37 games. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of the deal.

The Bruins just managed to avoid an arbitration hearing with forward Trent Frederic, signing him to to a two-year deal worth $4.6 million. In his third full season with the Bruins, Frederic set career-high with 17 goals, 14 assists and 31 points. The 25-year-old will be a unrestricted free agent at the end of the contract.

Forward Ryan McLeod avoided arbitration with the Edmonton Oilers by agreeing to terms on a two-year contract worth 4.2 million. The 23-year-old McLeod produced 11 goals and 23 points for the Oilers last season, his second full NHL campaign.

Defenseman Brandon Scanlin and the New York Rangers avoided an arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday. Scanlin’s new contract is a one-year, two-way deal that will pay the 24-year-old $775,000 at the NHL level. He appeared in 61 games with the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack and collected four goals and 15 points.

Only two players who filed for arbitration remain unsigned, Anaheim’s Troy Terry, whose hearing is scheduled for today, and Pittsburgh’s Drew O’Connor, who is slated to go on Friday.
