Goaltender Filip Gustavsson and the Minnesota Wild have avoided a arbitration hearing that was scheduled for Friday. The Wild inked the 25-year-old, who they acquired from Ottawa on July 12, 2022 for Cam Talbot, to a new three-year contract worth $11.25-million. In his first season with his new club, Gustavsson went 22-9-7 with a 2.10 GAA and .931 save percentage.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Nick Abruzzese to a two-year, two-way contract that carries a $775K salary at the NHL level. Abruzzese produced 16 goals and 48 points in 69 AHL games with the Toronto Mariles and appeared in two games with the Maple Leafs last season.

Jesse Ylönen and the Montreal Canadiens have come to terms on a new contract. The contract is for one year and will pay the 23-year-old forward $775K at the NHL level and $200K at the minor league level.  Ylönen split his time in 2022-23 between the Canadiens and Laval Rockets of the AHL. In 37 games with the Habs, Ylönen scored six goals and set up ten others.

The New Jersey Devils signed defenseman Kevin Bahl to a new two-year contract. Bahl’s deal is two-way in the first season and one-way in the second. The 23-year-old suited up in 42 games with the Devils last season and produced two goals and six assists.

Day one action from the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup saw Sweden pound Germany 11-1;  Finland outscore Canada by a 9-6 margin; host Czechia dominated the United States 7-2 and Switzerland double up Slovakia 6-3.

Today’s schedule sees the United States take on Sweden (9:30 a.m. – NHL Network); Finland tangle with Switzerland; Germany do battle with Germany; and Canada face off against Czechia (1 p.m. – NHL Network).
