Friday Caterwaul: Second Round Open Forum

After not seeing a Game 7 in the first round, we have three of them on tap tonight and tomorrow after the Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers survived with season-saving wins last night.

Vancouver Canucks 4, Vegas Golden Knights 0

Thatcher Demko dazzled again, this time posting a 48-save shutout as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-0 in Edmonton. Demko has stopped 90 of 91 shots in leading his outplayed team to wins in Game 5 and Game 6 to force a decisive seventh game. He is the first rookie goalie to win each of his first two career NHL playoff starts when his team was facing elimination since Jacques Plante did it in 1953. Quinn Hughes and J.T. Miller each had a goal and an assist, and Jake Virtanen and Bo Horvat also scored for Vancouver.

Carter Hart made 49 stops, and Kevin Hayes had a goal and an assist for the Flyers. Each of Philadelphia’s three wins in the series has come in overtime, a first in franchise history. James van Riemsdyk, Michael Raffl and Scott Laughton notched the other goals for the winners.
