Friday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Team Canada released seven players and named its three goaltenders for the upcoming world junior men’s hockey championship on Thursday.

One of the three goalies who earned a roster spot was Florida Panthers prospect Devon Levi. The Cats selected Levi in the seventh round (212th overall) of 2020 NHL Entry after the 18-year-old’s standout season for the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League.

Freshman Michael Benning scored his first-ever NCAA goal in Denver’s 5-1 victory over Miami. Benning’s third period tally put the Pioneers up by a 4-1 count. He also drew the primary assist on Denver’s first goal of the game. Benning, a defenseman chosen in the fourth round in 2020, has produced seven points in his first five college games.

Rodrigo Abols registered four shots on goal, dished out two hits and finished the game with an even rating in 18:55 TOI during Orebro HK’s 5-2 loss to Djurgarden in Thursday action from the Swedish Hockey League.

Panthers reserve Maxim Mamim equaled his KHL career-high with his 12th goal of the campaign in CSKA Moscow’s 4-1 over Avangard Omsk. Mamin scored 12 goals in 42 games during the 2016-17 season. He hit that number in just 34 games this season. Mamin finished the game with five shots on goal and a +1 rating in 13:36 TOI.
