Injured In Finland: Bergenheim Done With HIFK?

Panthers’ forward Sean Bergenheim has suffered an unspecified lower body injury which has derailed his stint in Finland’s SM-Liiga; he did not suit up for HIFK’s last two games. He apparently picked up the injury in a 3-2 loss to Tappara on October 2nd. Bergenheim played two games for HIFK and scored one goal while on what was thought to be a game by game contract. The extent of the injury is unknown and word out of Helsinki is that he has either returned to North America for treatment or is in the process of doing so now. Bergenheim is no longer on the official HIFK website roster so it would seem like his time with the club is up, at least for now. Whether this is due to the seriousness of the injury or if he has simply decided not to continue to risk his health playing outside of the NHL is unknown at this point.
