Memorial Cup: Josh Brown, Generals best Remparts in overtime

Stephen Desrocher beat Zachary Fucale 18:07 into overtime to give the Oshawa Generals a huge 5-4 win over the host Quebec Remparts at the 2015 Mastercard Memorial Cup yesterday. Cole Cassels set up the game-winner for his second assist of the game.

Oshawa moved to 2-0 in the the round robin portion of the tournament while Quebec fell to 1-1.

Florida Panthers prospect Josh Brown, the Generals captain, finished the game with 2 shots on goal and a -1 rating. Brown took a slashing minor in the second period that the Remparts failed to capitalize on.

Oshawa’s Michael McCarron opened the scoring, from Mitchell Vande Sompel and Michael Dal Colle, just 2:18 into the game.

Raphael Maheux even the game 4:25 later, with the assists going to Anthony Duclair and Ryan Graves.

Dal Colle scored to give Oshawa the lead back later in the frame, with McCarron drawing the only helper.

Graves, a New York Rangers prospect, notched the only goal of the second period to even the game. Marc-Olivier Roy and Vladimir Tkachev combined on the set up.

Oshawa regained the lead early in the third period when Dakota Mermis lit the lamp at the 2:34 mark. Tobias Lindberg and Desrocher picked up the assists on the even-strength goal.

Dmytro Timashov scored twice within a 3:09 span to forge a tie and then give the Remparts their only lead of the game.

His first goal came with Quebec on a power play, with the assists going to Roy and Nikolas Brouillard. The second goal was set up by Adam Erne and Kurt Etchegary.

It looked like Quebec was about to knock off another league champion until Lindberg bagged a power-play goal, from Cassels and Dal Colle, with 2:09 remaining in regulation.

Ken Appleby turned aside 21 shots to get the win while Fucale finished with 45 stops.

Tonight’s game features the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets versus Christopher Clapperton and the Rimouski Oceanic at 7:30 pm.
