Monday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers and Expansion Draft Open Forum

The Vegas Golden Knights enter day two of the expansion draft process as they attempt to not only build a team for next season, but more importantly acquire assets for the future.

Vegas will take one player from the list of Florida Panthers below:

Forwards: Jussi Jokinen, Jaromir Jagr, Reilly Smith, Derek MacKenzie, Colton Sceviour, Thomas Vanek, Michael Sgarbossa, Steven Hodges, Brody Sutter, Paul Thompson, Tim Bozon, Graham Black

Defensemen: Jason Demers, Jakub Kindl, MacKenzie Weegar, Brent Regner, Reece Scarlett

Goaltenders: Roberto Luongo, Sam Brittain

One would think it will be one of Jonathan Marchessault, Jason Demers or Reilly Smith, unless general manager Dale Tallon has worked out a deal with George McPhee to pass on the trio and take another player in order to pick up an additional asset or two from the Panthers.

The possibility also exists that the Cats could work out a deal with the Golden Knights to select an unprotected player from another club’s roster and ship that player to Sunrise.

We’ll find out how all this shakes out on Wednesday night at the NHL Awards Show in Sin City.
