Notes:

Despite a performance that left some fans disappointed, Roberto Luongo will indeed start tonight’s game…The Panthers will roll with the same lineup in Game Two, with perhaps one exception. Look for rookie defenseman Mike Matheson to possibly play in place of Jakub Kindl, who had rough night in Thursday’s opener…Kudos to Islanders goalie Thomas Greiss. The 30-year-old German born, journeyman netminder has 130 games of NHL experience, but that was his first-ever playoff start and he delivered a Grant Fuhr-like performance to get the win. He’ll square off against Luongo again this evening.

NHL.com Preview:

Florida dominated play for most of Game 1, outshooting New York 46-26. The top line of Aleksander Barkov, Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Hubderdeau was dangerous all night but came up empty. Jagr had a chance to tie it in the final minute, but Islanders goaltender Thomas Greiss made a diving stop for his 42nd and final save. (More)

Yahoo.com Preview:

After recording a playoff career-high three points, John Tavares has six goals and eight assists in 14 postseason contests. The Islanders captain was shaken up after being hit in the leg with a puck but said after the game that he felt fine. “He was excellent for us,” teammate Kyle Okposo said. “Obviously he’s been great for us all year. “He wears the C for a reason. He showed it.” (More)
