Wednesday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

While the initial surge of the NHL’s annual free agent frenzy is over, the Florida Panthers continue to generate buzz.

– According to Sun-Sentinel beat writer Harvey Fialkov, the Cats have inked fourth line center Derek MacKenzie to a two-year contract extension worth $2.7M.

There is nothing official from the club and the contract hasn’t made its way to general fanager as of yet, so this topic will get a full write-up on the ol’ LBC when the time comes.

– The Panthers are rumored to have interest in KHLer Vadim Shipyachov. The 29-year-old center has spent the last three seasons with SKA St. Petersberg and put up 60 points (17G/43A) in 54 games in 2015-16. Shipyachov led all scorers with 18 points at the 2016 IIHF World Championship. Check out TSN for more on this.

– Florida has invited free agent defensemen Miles Liberati to next week’s development camp. Liberati was drafted by Vancouver in the seventh round back in 2013, but the Canucks never signed him to an ELC. TribLive’s Jerin Steele has a nice article on the overage OHLer that you can see here.

Let’s keep the Panthers/hockey talk going in the comment section, folks. Collective pat on the back for everyone as you’ve been doing a stellar job of that, despite the lack of game action.
