Panthers Training Camp underway; “Hockey Day in South Florida” kicks off Sunday

It may not be preseason (have to wait for Tuesday) but all hands were on deck in Coral Springs for the official opening of the Panthers‘ 2010 Training Camp at Saveology IcePlex.

Didn’t make it personally due to whatever it was I ended up involved in, but all accounts sent my way appear rather positive, as should be the case on Day One. Lots of pictures and videos at the club’s site, so do check out the festivities.

We’ll be in town for Sunday’s “Hockey Day in South Florida”, though; with a little luck the official LBC photographic gear will operate a little more efficiently than at the first rookie game. Probably just down a quart of 20-weight, so stay tuned later in the day for pictures. Looking particularly forward to the scrimmage at 2pm; rosters as follow (and interesting pairs in goal):

TEAM A

F: Higgins – Matthias – Stillman

Grabner – Santorelli – Bernier

McFarland – Reasoner – Bitz

McArdle – Timmins – Thomas

Berger – Duco

D: Allen – Gudbranson

Robak – Paetsch

Ellerby – Callahan

Caruso – Wideman

G: Vokoun – Markstrom

TEAM B

F: Booth – Weiss – Frolik

Olesz – Reinprecht – Dvorak

Howden – Arnason – Repik

Grant – Foster – Dadonov

Wilson – Durocher – Peters

D: Kulikov – McCabe

Garrison – Petrovic

Wilson – Weaver

Comrie – Kostka

G: Clemmensen – Plante

Deep down I was hoping for a Gudbranson – Hotel Kulifornia duo; evidently not to be yet. Meantime, catch what’s left of the Airplane! marathon on AMC, and peruse this blog entry at On Frozen Pond; fascinating stuff on Olesz from GR:

In 2007-08, Olesz scored 14 goals with 12 assists in 56 games. After that season, then-general manager Jacques Martin gave Olesz a six-year deal worth $18.75 million.

When Olesz’s game dropped off the following season, players inside the locker room took umbrage at how much he was making.

And that’s just the beginning.

See y’all Sunday. Oh and hey…remember this guy?
