Saturday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Florida Panthers forward Aleksi Saarela scored his ninth goal and added two assists in Lukko’s 7-2 laugher over HPK in Friday action from Finland’s Liiga. Saarela notched a power-play goal 7:29 into the first period and then drew the primary assist on a shorthanded goal by Julius Mattila with 21 seconds left in the opening frame, and another primary assist on Lukko’s final goal of the game early in the third period. The 23-year-old registered four shots on goal and finished with a +3 rating in 17:05 of ice time. Saarela now has 13 points in 13 games for Lukko.

Henrik Borgstrom collected a pair of assists, his first two points of the season, in HIFK’s 3-2 overtime loss to Tappara. Both of Borgstrom’s helpers came with HIFK on the power play.  Florida’s first round pick in 2016 logged 16:15 TOI, had three shots on goal, and finished with an even rating in his third Liiga game of the season.

Tappara held HIFK’s leading scoring Anton Lundell off the score sheet. Lundell had two shots on goal an finished with a -1 rating in 17:15 of ice time.

Prospect defenseman Santtu Kinnunen played 17:25 for Tappara and finished with three shots on goal and an even rating while making his 14th appearance of this season.

Alec Rauhauser suited up, but did not figure in the scoring during DVTK Polar Bears 4-1 loss to HC ‘05 Banska Bystrica in a game from the Tipos Extraliga. Raushauser has 4 points (2G/2A) and +4 rating in 5 games with DVTK.

Defenseman Cole Krygier, a seventh-rounder in 2018, registered three shots on goal and finished with an even rating in Michigan State’s 2-0 win over Arizona State.

Defenseman Tyler Inamoto finished with three shots on goal an a -1 rating and right wing Owen Lindmark finished with no shots and -1 rating in Wisconsin’s 2-1 overtime loss to Michigan.  Both players were on the ice when Michigan’s Nick Granowicz tied the game in the second period.
