Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Prospect Camp Open Forum

Sweet – but expected – not-so-news directly from the club as Rookie Camp gets underway:

The Florida Panthers announced [two weeks ago] that 28 players (three goalies, nine defensemen, 16 forwards) will attend the team’s prospects camp that will begin with medical and physical testing on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at the BB&T Center. The first on-ice practice session will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 9 a.m. at the JetBlue Training Facility at the Saveology.com Iceplex.

VIEW FULL PANTHERS PROSPECT ROSTER

The Panthers open a four-team prospects tournament (Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins & Nashville Predators) with a game against Nashville’s prospects on Friday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. All four teams will compete in a round robin tournament that concludes on Sunday, Sept. 8. A complete prospects camp game schedule can be found below.

  • Friday, Sept. 6 – Tampa Bay vs. Boston at 2 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 6 – Nashville vs. Florida at 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 7 – Nashville vs. Tampa Bay at 12 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 7 – Boston vs. Florida at 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 8 – Boston vs. Nashville at 12 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 8 – Tampa Bay vs. Florida at 4 p.m.

Admission to the prospects tournament is free. All fans must pre-register for free rookie tournament tickets at FloridaPanthers.com/trainingcamp and print out a ticket before attending. Registration will be required upon entry, as seating will be limited.

Some of the Panthers prospects scheduled to attend the camp include F Aleksander Barkov (2nd overall in 2013), F Nick Bjugstad (19th overall in 2010), F Quinton Howden (25th overall in 2010) and D Alex Petrovic (36th overall in 2010).

So summer is officially coming to an end. To be honest, I’ve needed a kickstart after what has been a relatively quiet April, May, June, July, etc…

A few names in there I hadn’t yet personally heard of but whatever; full props for earning the invite, and the very best of luck going forward. Prospects involved in NCAA hockey programs cannot participate, hence the lack of Mike Matheson, Sam Brittain, Zach Hyman, Rocco Grimaldi, Kyle Rau and such.

Pretty stoked to have skates on SoFla ice once more 🙂
