With Sam Bennett in a boot and slated to miss Thursday’s season-opener against the Minnesota Wild, the Florida Panthers have recalled rookie forward Justin Sourdif.

In order to facilitate the move salary cap-wise, the Panthers placed defenseman Aaron Ekblad on long term injury reserve.

A third-round pick (87th overall) by the Cats in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Sourdif appeared in 48 AHL games with the Charlotte Checkers last season. He scored seven goals and 17 assists and accumulated 32 penalty minutes. In the Calder Cup playoffs, he scored one goal and one assist in six games.
