Monday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Florida Panthers (1-2-3) will hold a practice at 10:30 a.m. this morning as they prepare for Tuesday’s night game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

New York fell to 2-5-1 after being beat 4-1 on home ice by the Calgary Flames.

The Panthers can’t afford another loss against a team not expected to figure in the playoff race, so here’s hoping they can kick off the three-game Metro NYC road trip with a big win and build some momentum before they head across the pond to Finland.

The Springfield Thunderbirds (4-0-0-2) took both games from the Laval Rocket this weekend.

Jonathan Ang notched his first AHL goal and added an assist in Friday night’s 5-3 win. Anthony Greco and Blaine Byron also scored and added a helper. The other T-Birds goal-scorers were Paul Thompson and Jake Horton. Samuel Montembeault made 30 saves for his third win.

Springfield won the second game of the set by a 4-2 count. Sebastian Repo and Anthony Greco each provided a goal and an assist. Joel Lowry, who had two assists on Friday, and defenseman Julian MacDonald also lit the lamp and Henrik Borgstrom, Jayce Hawryluk, and Ludwig Bystrom collected helpers. Chris Driedger stopped 38 shots to pick up his first win of the season.
