Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar files for arbitration

Florida Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar was one of 43 NHL players who filed for arbitration yesterday. The number was 44 before the Carolina Hurricanes agreed to a $4.6 million, two-year contract with defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk,

This means unless the two sides come to a deal on their own before a hearing or before a ruling is made, which will be held in Toronto from July 20 to Aug. 4., takes place, an arbitrator will decide Weegar’s next contract with the Panthers.

Weegar made $675K last season while playing on a one-year deal.

Florida’s other remaining NHL-level RFA, Alex Petrovic decided not to file for arbitration and will try to work out a new contract with the club on his own.
