Monday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Florida Panthers are off from game action today. Boston will be up next on Tuesday in game five of the eight-game homestand. It will be the first of four meetings between the two clubs, who won’t face each other again until March.

The Springfield Thunderbirds (12-6-1-2) took three out of a possible four points this weekend and are currently in fourth place in the AHL’s Atlantic Division.

On Saturday, Springfield posted a 4-2 road win over the Hershey Bears. Anthony Greco scored the first and last T-Birds goals, Jacob MacDonald scored the winner midway through the second period, and Blaine Byron also lit the lamp. Collecting assists were Henrik Borgstrom, Jayce Hawryluk, Joel Lowry, Harry Zolnierczyk, Ryan Horvat and Ian McCoshen. Samuel Montembeault made 23 saves to pick up his ninth win of the season.

Riley Stillman scored with 37 seconds left in the second period to help send Sunday’s home game with Bridgeport to overtime, but Josh Ho-Sang notched the deciding goal at 1:31 of the extra session to give the Sound Tigers a 5-4 win. Samuel Montembeault took the loss, stopping 23 of the 26 shots he faced after replacing starter Chris Driedger nine minutes into the first period. The Thunderbirds trailed 4-1 before rallying to pull out a point. Jayce Hawryluk (PPG), Thomas Schemitsch, and Blaine Byron scored the other Springfield goals. In addition to his goal, Hawryluk had two helpers, as did Sebastian Repo. Joel Lowery, Jacob MacDonald, Anthony Greco and Jonathan Ang also contributed assists.
