Saturday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Offseason Open Forum

The Florida Panthers’ cross-state rival made the biggest splash on a transaction-filled Friday in the NHL.

Left wing Ondrej Palat re-signed for five years with the Tampa Bay Lightning. His new deal carries a cap hit of $5.3 million.

The Calgary Flames inked forward Curtis Lazar to a two-year contract worth $1.9 million. Earlier this summer, some Flames fans were worried Lazar might be lost in the expansion draft.

The Los Angeles Kings were busy, coming to terms with seven different players. Los Angeles avoided arbitration by signing defenseman Kevin Gravel to a one-year contract. The Kings also signed defensemen Paul LaDue, Zachary Leslie and Kurtis MacDermid and forwards Andrew Crescenzi, Jonny Brodzinski and Michael Mersch.

The Boston Bruins re-signed prospect goaltenders Malcom Subban and Zane McIntyre to two-year, two-way deals.

Defenseman Erik Gufstafsson re-upped with the Chicago Blackhawks for another year, singing a two-way contract.

The Washington Capitals re-signed 22-year-old center Liam O’Brien to a one-year, two-way deal.

Forward Martin Necas, chosen 12th overall in the 2017 draft, signed a three-year entry level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Center Filip Chytil, the 21st overall selection in 2017, signed a three-year entry level contract with the New York Rangers.
