Florida Panthers Top 25 Under 25: #23 – Anthony Greco

Our T25U25 countdown continues with a former Ohio State Buckeye who has fought his onto the list.

#23: Anthony Greco

Position: Forward

Age: 24

Team: Springfield Thunderbirds

Undrafted

Forward Anthony Greco earned an AHL contract with the Springfield Thunderbirds in 2016-17 after playing four seasons at Ohio State and appearing in one 2016 postseason game for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Greco scored 16 goals and added 15 assists in his first professional campaign. On November 20, the Panthers decided they liked what they had seen from Queens native and signed him to a two-year entry-level deal.

In his second AHL campaign, Greco potted a team-leading 29 goals for the Thunderbirds, a rather surprising total for a player who only lit the lamp 37 times while at Ohio State. His 48 points were second on the team, behind Dryden Hunt’s 62, a number that more than doubled his best point total (23) at the NCAA level.

Could the Panthers have found a true diamond in the rough in Greco? Or will he top out as an effective AHL player? It will be interesting watch Greco in training camp to see if he can maintain his upward trajectory and surpass more ballyhooed fellow prospects in the call-up line.
