ReCat: Panthers Show Trouba-Door

Florida earned their 79th and 80th points in a road win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night, by a 3-2 final score.

Reilly Smith (20, 21) and Jaromir Jagr (21) scored the markers for the Panthers, and are now tied for the team lead in goals. Vincent Trocheck (2), Steven Kampfer, Teddy Purcell, Jussi Jokinen, and Dmitry Kulikov earned the helpers for the Cats. Roberto Luongo stopped 30-of-32 shots to run his record up to 27-15-6 on the season, with a .925 save percentage. That’s good for seventh in the NHL, but is only the third best mark of Luongo’s career to this point.

Dustin Byfuglien (16) and Andrew Copp (2) lit the lamp for the Jets, assisted by Nikolaj Ehlers, Mark Scheifele, and Alexander Burmistrov. Ondrej Pavelec made 19 saves in the loss.

Both of Winnipeg’s goals occurred in the second period, while the Panthers scored once in the first and twice in the third, less than two minutes apart. Florida also went one-for-three on the power play, and held the Jets scoreless on four chances.
