NHL News

Nine days after acquiring veteran defenseman Jeff Petry from the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Montreal Canadiens traded the 35-year-old to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenseman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Montreal will retain half of Petry’s salary for the next two seasons. Lindstrom, 24, has 140 games of NHL experience to his credit.

Defenseman Bobby Baun, remembered most for scoring the game-winning goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 6 of the 1964 Stanley Cup Final on a fractured ankle, has died at the age of 86. Baun played in the NHL for 17 seasons from 1956 to 1973. In addition to suiting up for the Maple Leafs, he also was a member of the Oakland Seals and Detroit Red Wings. Rest in peace.
