Friday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

A few Florida Panthers prospects were in action in European friendlies on Thursday. Let’s see how they fared.

Defenseman Kasper Puutio scored a third period goal that tied the game before his squad Pelicans dropped a 3-2 decision to fellow Liiga side Jukurit. Puutio played on the second paring with fellow Finn Daniel Nieminen.

Logan Hutsko skated on the second forward line in IK Oskarshamn’s 5-2 win over Örebro HK in an exhibition between the two Swedish Hockey League clubs. Hutsko did not figure in the scoring.

Jakub Kos saw fourth line duty in Ilves 3-1 preseason win over HIFK in a match between two teams from Liiga. Kos did not figure in the scoring.

Defenseman Ludvig Jansson may have played in Lulea’s 3-2 overtime loss to fellow SHL club Skellefteå AIK, but unfortunately lineups and most of scoring details were not available online.

Checkers

The Charlotte Checkers have signed forward Jake Wise, who recently attended Florida’s development camp, to a one-year AHL contract.

Wise, 23, appeared in one regular-season game for the Checkers last season and picked up a pair of assists, as well as a playoff contest that saw him score his first professional goal.

A third-round pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2018, Wise spent five seasons at Ohio State and Boston University where he totaled 84 points (25G/59A) in 125 games. The Massachusetts native ranked second on the Buckeyes in scoring in 2022-23 and third in 2021-22. Prior to going to school Wise spent two seasons in the USHL with the US National Team Development Program, recording 11 goals and 39 points in 51 contests.
