Monday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

With his third shutout of the season – and first since December 8 – Florida Panthers netminder Jose Theodore locked up not only the NHL’s First Star honors on Sunday but tied his best performance in the category for quite some time: he last blanked three teams while with Colorado in 2007-08. Over his past two starts the 15-year veteran has allowed one goal on 68 shots.

Why last night rocked:

  • Love ’em or hate ’em, yesterday marked the second-to-last appearance of the Happy Cat-adorned JetBlues. And that does indeed rock./

Why last night jonesed:

  • WSH over TOR, 2-0: Laich’s first period shortie holds up as Neuvirth stops 23. Ovi/Semin: 1 SOG each./

Panthers Playoff Update:

Why tonight is a Big Deal in SoFla, beyond the obvious:

Focusing on clubs within 5 points of Panthers (77P); teams FLA needs to lose in bold

  • MTL at BUF (72P): after ripping a 6-0-1 record, Sabs have cooled of late with 2-2 record in past four; both wins coming beyond regulation/

Next up for the Cats:

  • Second match of four-game homestand picks up tomorrow vs Toronto; the LBC Game Thread authoritatively declares Hooper drives the boat at 7. Need Tickets? Seats starting at $8 via TiqIQ./

Did you know:

  • Tomas Fleischmann‘s gamewinner on Sunday was the fourth time he’s collected goals in consecutive games during 2011-12, but it’s been a while: last occasion was November 19-21 in Florida victories over Pittsburgh and New Jersey, respectively

On the table:

  • Guess who’s in town…and seriously? The red line?’
  • Nice pic
  • Live in Europe? Love the Panthers? Behold:/

“‘My NHL Team My Passion’ is a new book to explore the relationship that European based ice hockey fans have with ‘their’ team. It is a book about the thoughts, feelings and emotions that fans have and the passion they feel for their team. We would like contributions from fans of all 30 current teams to truly demonstrate the passion, and reach, of ice hockey in Europe.”

Jonathan at MNTMP needs you to rep the Cats, so please do check out the details here.

Who to start Tuesday vs Toronto, keeping in mind Boston comes to Sunrise two days later…
