NHL’s 32nd team will be called the Seattle Kraken

The NHL’s 32nd franchise, that begins play in 2021-22, has chosen the name Seattle Kraken.

As part of Thursday’s announcement, NHL Seattle revealed two logos, a wordmark and uniforms. The primary logo features a tentacle shaped like an S, which is nod to the PCHA’s Seattle Metropolitans, the first American-based team to ever win the Stanley Cup in 1917, while the secondary logo blends Seattle’s iconic Space Needle and an anchor to keep with the maritime theme.

The home uniform contains four different shades of blue: deep sea, ice, shadow and boundless, as well as a “red alert” stripe along the edge and a red eye to the left of the S. The road uniforms feature the same color scheme, swapping the deep sea blue for white as the primary color.

While I’m not a huge fan of the name, I really like the color scheme and the overall uniform design is pretty solid.

Hello, Seattle Kraken. The Florida Panthers will see you in Sunrise or at Climate Pledge Arena year after next.
