Thunderbirds drop games to Penguins and Bears

The Springfield went 0-for-Pennsylvania this weekend, dropping games to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hershey to fall back to .500 at 11-11-3-2.

Penguins 4, Thunderbirds 2

After beating Binghamton on Friday night, Springfield lost by a 4-2 count to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday.

Chase Balisy opened the scoring 2:18 into the second period, from Tim Bozon and Sena Acolatse.

The Penguins countered with goals from David Warsofsky, Oskar Sundqvist, and former Florida Panthers prospect Garrett Wilson to take a 3-1 lead after the middle stanza.

Jake Guentzel scored 5:01 into the third to put the home side up by three.

Acolatse and Balisy combined to set up Anthony Greco for his fourth to complete the scoring.

Tristan Jarry stopped 29 shots to get the win, while Mike McKenna finished with 38 saves for the Thunderbirds.

Bears 4, Thunderbirds 0

Vitek Vanecek turned away all 22 Springfield shots as Hershey blanked Springfield 4-0 on Sunday.

Paul Carey, Darren Dietz, Zach Sill and Chris Bourque scored the goals for the Bears.. while Christian Djoos collected two assists.

Reto Berra took the loss, finishing with 27 saves on 31 shots.

Springfield’s four-game road trip continues with another tilt in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, followed by a stop in Bridgeport on Wednesday. The Thunderbirds return home to face the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday.
